    How do you know.

Have a Mercury 200 ProXS,raised it up another 11/16 " and it runs fine and the water pressure is good. How do you know when its's time to start plugging the top holes on the motor's side water intake holes? How many do you plug?

Normally, it would not be necessary with your engine.

If water pressure were to drop BELOW 18 psi at WOT, and performance/RPM/correct propping still indicate that additional height is necessary, you could THEN consider it (but usually as a "final resort").
