I had been using a Shimano Curado 78XH to throw small/mid size glides (6th Sense Trace, Bull Shad, etc). Thursday I broke the rod on a dang catfish of all things...she bit a 6" glide in less than 3 feet of water, fully ate it! Anyway, I might be in the market for a replacement. I used a Powell 795 before I got the Curado but wasn't thrilled with it due to lost fish. I'm going to try a Kistler 7'11 XH mod/fast I've been using for punching to see how it does. Ideally I'd like a little shorter rod than 7'11, I don't throw glides all the time and I'm usually not launching them for long casts. Any one use a 7'6 or less rod for this stuff? I don't think a regular 7'6 H would be enough (I tried out a Tatula 7'6 flipping rod and didn't like the way it felt casting). Kistler has a 7'6 XH in the KLX and Helium lines and ALX has similar. Found a few 7'3-7'5 options as well. I'd like for this rod to be able to do heavy cover frogging or punching if needed as I used the Curado for that as well. I guess I could just get another Curado but want to expand a little. The handle was pretty long on that rod so the frogging use was awkward. Not 100% sure I'll even replace it, might just try to tweak something on the 795 or make due with the Kistler I already have.
