Thank you. My brother would claim 35 dependents so he would get his money every week, not being withheld. Have it the bank all year. Then write a check to pay his tax bill on the last day possible.

I ran the numbers and if taxes are eliminated on SS, and we get a 10% income tax rate cut, I'll save $90 next year or about $7.50 a month.

Make sure you put into your savings account so you can draw 0.0001 % interest each month compounded!

I do my own taxes…at this point in life, it’s pretty simple. Standard deduction and maybe a schedule C if I get tournament winning that are reported by 1099M
If you are an employee…take a look at your W4 and this IRS tax withholding estimator.

    https://apps.irs.gov/app/tax-withholding-estimator

You can adjust your withholding by modifying your W4 “if” you are getting a significant refund. I’d consider that 1000 or more. That’s money you can use or save through out the year. I’m an hourly employee and so is my wife. I owed the govt 6400 this year. I adjusted the wife’s W4 and upped her percentage of retirement contributions to try and get the withholding and tax liability closer together. I don’t want to owe that much, but I don’t want a refund either.

That sounds like too much to worry about constantly and then you have to be disciplined to not spend that little extra money on nice to have's each month that pop up.

what are you benefiting from by not getting a refund i guess is what im trying to figure out.. paying less fed/state tax monthly when they take it out in your paychecks through out the year?. Guess all companys/employers do differently.. Ours is taken out each paycheck..

Lucky you. I don't pay any tax on SS now, as most people don't.

No tax is just more talking points to run it into the ground.

    • Eliminating Social Security taxes would also require finding new funding sources for the program, as these taxes contributed $50.7 billion to the Social Security trust fund in 2023..

I got my fed refund back in 4 business days.

    State took almost 3 weeks.

I will say it was nice to have a baby last year.

Pay, owe, are synonymous in the context written. I think most people understood the meaning behind the statement as pertaining to the threads title.

The benefit is more money in your pocket every paycheck or more money in your retirement account. Why would anyone want to pay more than they need to into what essentially is an an escrow account the government holds interest free!

If you get a $2400 “tax” (its really an overpayment refund) return refund…that’s two hundred a month you could have spent on spinnerbaits or entry fees!

Did the refund match what you paid in over the year?
