Question for Don on maintenance.

I have a 2019 150 pxs (ss#2B619014). I have 80 hrs on the motor. I've read you saying a few times to do an annual oil change. Do I change the oil now and then after putting 20 more hrs on the motor. I know its a small price to pay for potential longevity but I'm just making sure I have to do it. tks.

I believe the manual says change the engine oil every 100 hours or once a year whichever comes first.

Remember if you idle your outboard a fair amount you can "make oil" by condensed water vapor and uncombusted gas accumulating in the engine oil. Over time this can degrade the oil's lubricating properties. Four stroke engines tend not to get the oil as hot and are more likely to make oil. Nothing to be scared of but do follow the oil maintenance schedule to head off any issues.

I bought the boat and motor in 2021 from the OG owner with 20 hrs on it. I change the oil and lower unit oil every year at the start of the season but was hoping I could wait until 100 hours before changing it because I'm so close. I guess what I'm confused about is if doing it now will cover the oil change part of the 100 hour service. or do I need to do it twice within a couple months.

I understand that and have no questions about that part, What I'm asking is if I'm going to have to change the oil twice within a couple months.

NO... you only reset the clock for the ENGINE OIL if you change the engine oil. All other maintenance that's required once per year, or every 100 hours (or 3 years/300 hrs), whichever occurs first would still be due at the same time it was normally due.

You do it once a year OR every 100 hours. So if you do it now, it would be due next in another year OR in another 100 hours.

It's done with the Mercury G3 Diagnostic System.

There is also a separate maintenance tracking feature in some of the Mercury Apps (VVMobile for instance).
