    Patoka 8-21-05

I fished my club tournament and my partner and I did not boat a keeper! Caught a few short fish including my biggest smallmouth ever. Ok, not to brag but it was almost 14 inches!! (Obviously, I have never caught many smallies!!)

Water temp 88 to 89 and the level is still below normal pool. Water was clear and we threw the book at them. Small finesse worms and crankbaits kept us from getting skunked but we only caught short ones and not very many of them.

As usual somebody figured them out. Winning team had just over 10 lbs. 2nd and 3rd was in the 7 lbs. range. Big fish was 5.67

    Tight Lines!

Isn't that amazing? It seems that someone always does figure a hard bite out! I don't care where I have fished a tournament, someone always gets into them it seems. Once in a great while it was me, but not often. I would much rather be lucky than good!!

Nice report John, its still fun getting out with a group to hear who did what and as usual some one always figures them out.

One time time this year I ran into a guy in my club in a tourney with about two hours left he had three solid keepers and myself zero. At that point I just wanted some points, who knew I ended up getting into some late and won. Days like that is what keeps me going to the end.

It definitely is more mentally straining when in a tourney.

    Tim,
I just noticed you are from the big metropolis of Gosport. My step-dad was born and raised in Gosport. The family farm is on County Line road. It used to be nice down there until the golf course came. I still hunt down there on the farm and occasionally fish the White for knuckleheads.
Send me a PM and we will chat about the rest of the spots around town
