    Passenger Console removal

Anyone ever have a passenger console taken out of 2002 era Basscat? I would have a profession fiberglass shop do the work. Was wonder if there are any issues with having it done.

I removed one from a 2010 puma. It was a long time ago but from my failing memory I think I had to peel back some carpet inside box to expose screws along front and gunnel sides. There was adhesive too that came apart no damage to console or boat gel coat. I may have removed the adhesive with goof off or something can't remember but it came off. I got these small plastic tab plugs to fill in the holes they just popped in

Boat is in storage but I am pretty sure the console is glassed to the hull. Will have to check it to be sure.

I had an '02 Jaguar, the console was built into the hull and goes to the floor. I think it would be pretty costly to cut it out and reglass it to make it look good. Sure was a lot warmer on cold morning runs than the later ones.

I removed the console on my 2006 Puma years ago. It was bolted in through the port rod locker and the port gunnel. Gunnel has an access hatch to reach the bolts. Next per BCB instructions I used hard wood wedges and kept tapping them in between the console and hull until the urethane sealant released. This took quite awhile. I also used Goof Off. Once the console was out, I used Goof Off and plastic razor blades to remove the remaining urethane.

I believe it was only a year or two later that the consoles started to become modular. Yours likely is glassed in.

'02 was glassed in, didn't start bolting them until '04. I thought about doing it on an old DC Champ 171 I had...was a great little boat but the passenger console took up too much room. There won't be any structural issues (at least there wouldn't have been in the Champ) but you're going to have some scars to cover up. I ended up selling and buying a SC Eyra at the time.

I want the console gone so I can lay down the longer rods easier and just get around the boat a little better. Don't want to get rid of the boat if I can just make an adjustment. Better the devil you know.

The '02 year is made with the best materials available, it's worth keeping and adjusting if you can get done without breaking the bank or looking like someone took a sawsall to it!
