    Question Cougar Loaded Speed

    Hey guys,

    Disregard the title...

I'm thinking really hard at jumping in a COUGAR FTD. What can I realistically expect speed and performance wise with a Mercury 250 ProXS 4S? Will be coming out of a Phoenix 920 ProXP with a 250 SHO. Currently, looking at another Phoenix and the Cougar.

    TIA

Those generally are between 75 and 78 MPH, and can go either side of that number range. We’ve seen lower 80’s, and the slowest we’ve ever experienced is 72 loaded on one rig.

Our son and his high school fishing partner had a friend captain and drive them during a HS tournament last year in our '22 Cougar with a 250 proXS. The captain had been on a college team for a few years, and he'd driven several makes, but never a BassCat and certainly never ours, and he hit 78 with those three, full tanks of gas and half-full live wells. He's a pretty good driver, but said he didn't want to try pushing it anymore on that day during their tournament. Probably could have pushed 80 for sure. And yes, our son carries way more than he needs as far as tackle goes.
