    Exhaust Pressure Sensor & Diaphragm

    I have twin '05 175HP FICHTS.
I am replacing the sensors and have read about cleaning the hose that goes to the EMM.
What is the purpose of the diaphragm?
Should the passage from the EMM to the Sensor be clear in both directions? Is it OK to spray carb cleaner through the hose from the EMM to the sensor?

If the hoses are carbon'd up, you can clean it out but your better off just replacing the hose. Hose is cheap. As far as the diaphragm, as long as it holds pressure, its fine. A small hand held pressure pump would be a good way to test it. I wouldnt put any more than a few lbs of pressure. You can just also blow in it and see if its leaking by. Check for carbon in the inlet side of the housing and clean it out if you can.

As far as what it does and why its there, not sure exactly other than keeping the exhaust gasses isolated.

    Thanks for the reply.
    Removed the hoses/diaphragm for inspection.
Hoses were clean and the diaphragm help pressure.
Also replaced the sensors. 1 was burnt and the other was completely clogged.
