    2024 250 ProXS Rattle/Grind

    S/N: 3B405749

As the description says, I have intermittently experienced a noticeable rattle and almost grinding sound out of my outboard. It only seems to happen after I've been on the water for a while and while plowing water at low RPMS. On plane going slow, making turns, etc. and you can hear it. Never seems to happen early in and is on into the day when the sound will appear. No sounds at high RPMs. Took it to the dealer for 100 hr service and I mentioned it to them. They took it for a water test and couldn't recreate the sound. I tried to get video of it but it just doesn't come through with the wind noise. Passengers in my boat hear it as well and have asked me if I hear the sound as if something is wrong.

Uploaded it to Youtube. It was definitely doing it in this video but you can't hear anything unfortunately. Gives an idea about speed and conditions when the sound is heard if nothing else.

Yes, but I didn't check the range. It's low RPM's, just on plane, trimmed down kind of speeds. If I trim up and get going faster it goes away.

I got it to do it again yesterday evening. It's happening around 3,000 rpm but it does it at varying RPMS while plowing water until I start trimming up and get into higher RPM ranges.

Have you checked to see if your prop nut is at the proper torque?

I swap props from time to time throughout the year and I think it’s done it even swapping but not positive. I will double check that! Thanks!

Try a totally separate prop and hub.

While you're at it, get out your torque wrench and start checking mounting bolts, jackplate bolts, gearcase fasteners, steering hardware, striker plates, make sure anodes are tight, etc.
