3.0L Block ID

When buying just a bare powerhead, how can you identify what that block is ? Is there a location on the block that carries the S/N. I was told the S/N is OG362837, but I'd like to be able to find a positve ID on the block to confirm what I have.

there should be a freeze plug on the lower starboard side of the block that has the serial # stamped into it.

You can also "compare" the block casting numbers. Usually somewhere along the mating surfaces of the block.

Thanks Perry & Don. The numbers matched, but now the second question and I ask this because of bleed line routing, How do you positively ID the S/N (1st post) to the actual year of the motor................?????????????

As an example, it may have been a carb block converted to EFI, so the bleed lines run differently between the two.

If you can FIND the serial number.... I can run it to identify it.
