When it comes to working the pads, I always go with weedless frogs. Many different types to choose from. Zoom Horney Toads and other plastic frogs with 5 EWG size hooks or spro type frogs, either on braided line (30 lb test or better). Don't be afraid to throw it deep and keep your rod tip up as you try to walk it thru the clearings in the pads as slow as you can while keeping the frog near or at the surface. When they hit, don't go for the hookset until you feel the fish. I recently caught a 7 pounder in 85 degree water, 4' deep, at 9AM so don't let water temp decide when to throw the frog. I've been know to stick with it too long if anything..
