excuse my ignorance once again, but WHERE is the water seperator on a 2006 225 opti? you recommend removing and draining it during winterization, but i gotta know what im removing first if you would be so kind.
also, what would be the best way to drain a fuel tank? i've got about a 1/4 tank and can't bring myself to put another 30 gallons in there that i won't be able to use to fish with next spring.

Water separating filter is a "red-capped screw in cartridge" located at the top of the IVST (vapor separator tank) on the port or left side of the engine.
There is a drain screw at the front/bottom of the resevoir to drain the contents (it's easiest to do this with the filter removed). Filter removal requires carefully separating the TPS link arm from the TPS arm (use a screwdriver to CAREFULLY snap the ball-link apart).
A filter removal tool is a good idea, but in a pinch, you can use a screwdriver, or a propnut and tab washer from a standard hub kit (the tab washer fits right into the top of the filter).
Best means of draining fuel tank contents it to access and remove the fuel sender. Siphon the fuel out of the tank (get as much as physically possible).

Maybe it was just me, but I found the red plastic cap difficult to get off using the screwdriver method. It required enough force that I had that unnerving feeling I've had a couple of times just before I broke something. I used a big screwdriver in tab slots across the widest part of the cap, held it level firmly against the tabs and down against the cap, took my time, and it came off OK. It was just as difficult to seat firmly when reinstalling. Next time I'll try the prop not approach - if still too difficult I'll buy or borrow the tool.

Don thanks for the tip on the prop nut and washer it works! I did however run a 3/4" bolt through washer and tighted down a 3/4 nut. I tried just using the nut but it kept jumping out of the washer.
