Primer Bulb is difficult to get hard - 225 XS 2008/80Hrs

    Hi Folks,

Possibly a "stupid" question..., however I read a lot of posts and note that damage can occur if primers aren't hard prior to starting.

On a couple of occasions (the last being the worst) I have struggled to get the bulb "hard" before the first start. Most recently I was reaching for my tools to change the bulb when it finally came good (say 3-5mins of trying).

Should I be looking at the bulb, the lines (original "black" as far as I know) or other? Note:- the bulb seems to stay quite firm.... once it gets there, engine runs beautifully.

Thanks for any suggestions of areas to check, or reasurance if this is "normal"
    Andrew

I would recommend replacing the line AND the bulb.... using ONLY OEM Mercury components.

Recommend replacing line FROM THE FUEL TANK, ALL THE WAY TO THE ENGINE.

Thx Don, after reading the issues with lines deteriorating, I was kinda thinking of doing this anyhow. No tips or easy way to thread the new line through the rigging hose without fully disconnecting this, linkages etc I guess?

You can get a new, clean piece of plastic coated cable from your local hardware store.... stick it into the old line and tape it well with duct tape or electrical tape. Do the same thing with the new line..... pull the whole setup through and it usually works.
