    250XS

I have a 2007 250XS and was wondering how I tell if I have a fleetmaster or torquemaster lower unit. Mine is painted silver if that helps. And what is the difference between the two.

The two gearcases are nearly identical. The primary difference is in the skeg.

Look at the skeg from the aft (rear) end- if there's a "cast-in torque tab" (skeg is thicker on the starboard or right side), it's a Torquemaster.

Normal appearing skeg (narrows off to a relatively sharp edge)... it's probably a Fleetmaster, which is commonly used as a "port side" engine in multi-engine applications.
