    Guntersville Help Needed

I have been to Guntersville about 10 times since I got my boat. We've had some good days, but nothing special. I just can't seem to locate the fish. I don't have a GPS unit and the waters I fished in Franklin County Alabama were only a few thousand acres (biggest being Cedar Creek and it's close to 6k) and now I'm sitting in 70k acres of water with no idea where to start. Anyone got some advice for fellow basser???

Find some "good" grass and start chunking top waters right now, Pop-R's, frogs, Swimbaits buzzed over the grass, buzzbaits etc. Try shallow running crankbaits too. Either end of the lake and anywhere in the middle is a good place, the key is finding the good milfoil, there is plenty of it over there, not just any grass line will hold fish.

I'll tell you one spot to go try, out of Spring Creek, straight across is the Guntersville Yacht Club, fish that grass, not up in the pocket, you'll see the bouys to mark the channel going into the Yacht Club, fish the sides of it. You should be able to catch some fish there, and see what kind of grass you need to look for.....OR stay away from, depending on outcome.

Either end is good to fish. You don't have to have a gps, although it does make it a little easier on a grass lake like guntersville. I would be glad to show you around the lake sometime. Generally just cover water

Wheeler, yes. Guntersville, not so much, if any. I don't get there much in the winter but I know Wheeler goes down significantly.

Cory at http://www.tva.gov you can look at discharge, current elev. and a host of other info on the Tn river chain. Per there site

Gville drops 1ft for winter drawdown with Wilson dropping 2ft. Wheeler and Pickwick are flood control lakes and they drop pretty dramatic at up to 4ft each.

    Good luck

LOL on Wheeler! Yeah I live right here in Decatur and we call it the "TN Tidal Lake" since it swings up and down so much. Here before too long it will be stump field city. And a very good time to hit Decatur with video camera and GPS and map out some of the bigger stump clusters

    Re: Guntersville Help Needed (Kerry201pro)

How about fall turnover? Is that much of an issue at the area lakes? Is it time to head to the shallows in the back of the creeks, or are they still holding where deep water is nearby? I've decided that the only lure I'm taking this weekend is a green pumpking and a blue and black jig. I'm determined to figure out the jig bite this year even if it kills me.

Right now most of the shad on a nice day are extremely shallow. They will hold there till the water temp really starts to drop. Right now I am working backs of creeks real skinny

weekend before last we caught the crap out of them, caught most of mine on a chrome with blue back rattle trap and some on 10" zoom tequila sunrise worms. lossed one bout 9 lbs on the worm cause my drag on my 10 year old quantum energy is GONE, just my luck i hooked it with that real....... :( all on the edge of very thick grass. my friend caught about half as many as me and he was using a worm and spinnerbait mostly. he did get an 8lb stripe when we found a small school on top. I caught 6 of mine in 6 casts on the rattle trap when we first got there. don't know bout now but I'll bet sat they'll be going insane after this cold front and now its warmed back up!!!!!!! we'll find out tommorrow, i'll be there!!!!

    Re: Guntersville Help Needed (Kevenater)

me and the wife went out yesterday.....first time I have been shutout this year, but I was trying to learn a jig. My wife on the other hand, completely wore my butt out. She caught the biggest of her life at a little over 4 lbs. I think I was more pumped up that she was. She ended up boating 12 before the day was over. We were fishing scattered grass in 4-6 ft. She was using a red bug 7 1/2" worm with a red 3/0 hook....never put it down and I thought rigamortis was setting in she was jerking so much. Guess I'll get to make a few more boat payments now.
