I heard Bear Creek was good but if you want #'s fish the little river side of 7 mile island. It has a lot of trees and stumps. I fish the FOM there Sat. we had a least four limits there but they were small.

Caught these fish 3/24/07 between Koger Island & colbert steam plant off stumps on the deep water side. Used chartreuse spinnerbait.

Due to some criticism received on the Braggin board where my pics were also posted I felt I needed to append my post. I live on Spring Creek 1/2 mile up from the river. A walk down to the creekside and these big boys were headed home!! I would like to add that, while I advocate catch & release, I do not oppose keeping occasional fish for the table or trophy. A good article about this very thing is available at http://www.bassresource.com/fi....html. I have been fishing since I was old enough to hold a pole. My father was a founding member of the Tennessee River Bass club in the early 70's prior to the Bassmasters which later absorbed the TRB. Catch & release was indoctrinated at an early age but also tempered with the knowledge that Momma like to eat fish. The panfish (crappie & bream) were the best but absent a good catch an occasional bass was included. I may be blackballed by you guys for my opinion but do look over the above article before criticizing anyone who would say differently. Bass fishing in Pickwick has gone down since the instituting of C&R and could very well be part of the cause. I don't advocate keeping the larger fish (unless trophies) and thank someone for the opportunity to catch these three as I am sure someone had released them in the past. Hope Ventben sees them again and if you do well let us know.

It was a great trip. Caught between 25-30 bass each day. Three to Five over three lbs each day. Weather was great and the fish were moving up. Mostly used shakey heads and grubs to catch most of our fish. In the morning we caught lots of big stripers in front of cane creek on spooks- it was a blast. Cant wait to go back. In response to keeping a few fish. I am a fisheries biologist and I see no problem with keeping a few fish. It helps maintain a balanced fishery. You are not going to hurt a 50,000 acre reservior one bit by takining 3 4lb smallmouth out.

Sounds like a good trip! No pics? Sounds like you were fishing the same area I fish in. Went out Saturday but the wind blew 20+ mph down the river and made fishing my stumps almost impossible Only caught a couple small ones.

Wow!!!! Awesone sack of fish man!!! I would eat all em. That's why the dear Lord put em in there

I live a few miles from Wheeler, and about 20 mins from Wheeler dam. We are going to be down on the other end of Pickwick at JP Coleman the last weekend of April for a huge fastbass rally. I'll be on the lookout for them bronze backs. Hopefully they'll be biting good. Awesome fish..............Mater

    Ventben,
When did you become a fisheries Biologist? That sounds really cool. Can you work in Pond Management with that degree?
