What are water conditions on lake Chautauqua?

Just checking water conditions on lake Chautauqua? Temp, Algae Bloom, Have they sprayed lately for weeds, etc. It has been several years since I have been up in October. But, last time I was up, I was told they had sprayed poison to kill or control the weeds & both upper & lower ends of the lake was covered in green weed particals. It might have been algae bloom. Didn't know for sure at the time. Was thinking about coming back up.

An algae bloom really surprises me in October. Heck most of the time we get snow in October, the area where my buddy lives an hour north of me is supposed to get snow this week. not algae bloom conditions but Then again the weather out in western NY tends to be a little more mild and warmer than out this way.

usually the weed kills happen early summer too. Wonder if they just do it differently out there

I haven’t fished Chautauqua in a while but at this time of year no algae bloom is ever present. Water temps can vary from year to year but expect mid 50’s now. Green weed particles would be about right until temps head to lower 50’s where the walleye tend to school up in the deep holes around Long Point and the upper basin. You will have the lake to yourself especially if bass fishing.

Checked my records and my last trip there was in Oct. 2019. Have several other trips planed already & I am not going to make it up this year. Thanks everyone for your help. Hope you all have good fishing & catch many smallies.

A few years ago we had a throw together tournament late in the fall like this thinking it would be good. We all have spent many days on the water up there though the years and new the water well. It's was surprising but something like 5 lb won that day it was brutal fishing.
