Wilson in October

I have never fished Wilson and have a tourney there in October. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm probably not the best one to try and answer this question but I'd think that a lot depends on what happens with the weather between now and your tournament. If we don't get some cooler temperatures, it's pretty much going to be a typical late summer pattern since the water temperature right now is still between 80 and 82 degrees. Once the water temps drop into the mid to low 70's, though, you can count on big numbers of largemouth starting to chase huge schools of shad in the backs of the creeks and coves. Spinnerbaits, crankbaits and topwaters typically work well then but sometimes senkos and soft jerkbaits work extremely well, also. If you prefer smallmouth, it won't be long before the water temps drop into the upper 60's. Thats usually when big numbers of smallies will congregate in the tailrace of the dam, again following huge schools of shad. Usually the spinnerbaits, crankbaits, topwaters, and hair jigs work pretty well. Good luck!

Definately depends on the weather. The shorter days have the fish wanting to move into creeks and coves, but the water Temp won't cooperate. That means hit the points. I have been catching some quality LM on a black/blue 1/2oz. jig on bluff points on the N side. By Oct. I probably would stay from the point to 500 yds. on either side of the point unless we have some drastic weather changes. One thing to remember on Wilson is to treat Shoal Creek like it is a seperate river. It is too big to be treated like a run of the mill creek.
