    2021 Pro XS 225 Starting/Idle Issue

    3B015517

    77.7 Hours

On The water this morning- for the initial start and starts for the entire morning - motor sounded irregular/faint and took slightly 1-2 secs longer to kick over. Idle speed was irregular as well with the outboard displaying minor shaking. Motor ran fine wide open. No tripped faults on vessel view. Maintenance up to date.

    Any ideas or suggestions appreciated.

I agree, I did mine on my 300r at around 110 hours.......the plugs looked perfect, gap was perfect, but motor ran noticeably crisper and idled even rpms in gear after changing them. Keep in mind the 300 hr service is 300hrs or every 3 years. Fuel quality might also be an issue for you if you're only doing 25 hours per year. Do you run the motor hard ever?

Run her hard— but for short/moderate stretches. I too suspected sub-par gas quality.

I’m also using the recommended additives each time. When starting her up you can definitely tell something is off.

Plugs (replace) and gap properly. Definitely due.

If it still "sounds" different when initially starting, check the idle relief muffler tube.
