    09 250 ProXs trim problem

Got another one for ya Don,

After fishing today, I was trimming the motor up (using the button on the motor) at the ramp to put the motor-toter on, and the trim quit. The three other trim switches were dead as well. Luckily I had the motor all the way up. Turned the key on just to see if it had power and it did.

Here's the problem. I have a tournament this weekend, and was planning on taking the boat to a dealer I trust two hours away after the tournament to fix the other problems, see... http://www.bbcboards.net...proxs

So now I will have to take it to the dealer in town, which I really don't them touching it, but the dealer two hours away is at least a week out before they look at it.

Will they have to hook the computer up to it and check the hours for warranty reasons? If so, I really don't want them to clear the codes because I want the other dealer to see them first. I also don't want to tell them I'm taking it else where after the tournament.

"Engine Hours" are required to be entered on the warranty claim.

I would recommend that you instruct them to "DO NOT CLEAR ANY FAULTS- DO NOT ADDRESS ANY OTHER ISSUES AT THIS TIME".

Sounds like a power supply issue, or perhaps a failed trim motor. I understand these are on backorder currently.... but I think we might have one on the shelf, if you need it.

My trim motor went out on my '08 over a month ago and I'm waiting on the backorder. The first time it went out, I was told by someone else who had the same problem to tap on the trim motor with a mallet or something of that nature to get it back working for a while. I did that and it held for a couple of months. Might keep that in mind in case you need it and can't get it fixed right away.

Several of us are waiting on trim motors. Tapping semi-gently near the top of the motor with a small ball-peen has worked for me as well. When my dealer checked last week, he was told the motors might go out this week. We'll see.......

Just got back. It is the trim motor and it is backordered. But they do have the whole trim unit in stock, and Merc is going to send it. Like the dealer said, if the want to send a $1200 trim unit for a $300 trim motor, why not? I hope Mercs customer service continues like this. I also had them 2nd air it so it will be on for the tournament this weekend.

I'm going to have to check on getting the entire trim unit too. I was told yesterday that Mercury is now saying that their "best guess" on the backordered trim motors is Sept. 23.

I talked to a lady at merc before I ever went to the dealer to check on availability. She said that they put backorder stuff on a 2 week cycle, so then it makes them keep up with it. So in reality, they don't actually know exactly when they'll be getting them in.

Another thing, this trim unit they are sending (which I had 2nd day air and didn't come ine today like it was supposed to ) will obviously have the trim motor that they have had problems with. But I really don't care as my motor is no good the way it sets, with motor in the air like it just don't care !

For everyone's info that is waiting on a trim motor, my dealer called me this AM to tell me that Merc was sending him the complete trim UNIT for my replacement. Should be in next week. It's tough times for Merc and everyone else in the marine business. Hats off to them for supporting their product in that manner.

Got it put on yesterday so I'm good to go for the tourny in the am. By the way, this one sounds completely different than the other one. This one is a cleaner high pitch sound when the original always had a lower grind sound.
