    New Curados (Malaysian made)

I just tried out my new Malaysian made G6 Curado. IMO it is no where near the quality of the Curado E5's and E7's or the 50E. I have many of the older Japanese made ones and they are much better. Very disappointed in my new G6.

    Re: New Curados (flyingwillie)

I agree. I got to check out the new ones in a shop yesterday, and they're not what they used to be. Not smooth on the crank. Just seemed like there was resistance when turning the handle... and I made sure to loosen up the brake. Flicking the spool, it didn't spin as long as it should. Just not worthy of the Curado name -- and I'm not really a Shimano guy, although I do have a couple Curado E's, and am familiar with what's expected from their better models. I guess you now have to pay $20 more than what the E series sold for, and go with the new Chronarch to get the Curado quality (and then some). Maybe that was their marketing strategy.

the worst thing about it is shimano will do nothing about it...they had a lot of the market tied up ,then went and screwed with it...the only reason they came out with "new reels" this year was so they could move manufacturing of the citica and curado over to the Malaysia plant.but they will never admit it.

    Re: (JohnD.)

The problem is we as informed, greedy consumers. We want the latest and greatest, all the time, and we want it now.

The Revo platform is a great example of where I see the whole industry going...cheap (but decent) reels made with as many interchangable parts that simply need small tweeks to market as different.

The new curado/citica/caenen are no different.

In todays market the companies know that only have to make a reel that lasts until the new model comes out.

Get what you pay for, there is a reason for the price difference outside of the country of origin. Better comparison is the New Chronarch to the previous E series Curados.

The reason they moved production to Malaysia, which they will admit, was to cut costs. It is a result of the weak US dollar and the Japanese exchange rate.
To produce the same reel in Japan, there would be a significant price increase in the 2012 line up. They chose to move production of some reels to try to stay in line with their 2011 price points.
Smart move? Who knows? I'm sure there were more than a few meetings discussing which way to go.
I believe Daiwa chose to keep production of their reels in Japan... prices of their reels have gone up.

    Pretty much the case.
At least there is still a curadarch to be had if your willing to spend a couple bucks more.

    Re: New Curados (flyingwillie)

I agree, I am seriously disappointed in the new curado / citica line. I haven't and will not buy them. They just feel really cheap IMO and I can get past it. The handle on the curado feels and looks plastic and the knobs on the citica look and feel like the knobs off of a cheap pinnacle from Wal-Mart. I'm stocked up on the E series so should be ok for a while plus I've bought my first Zillion this year and I'm really impressed so I'll be adding a few more of them to my collection.

    Re: New Curados (Jkitchens)

I can understand moving to Malaysia but couldn't they have just made the E series there and let it be the same reel?? Just because they are moving to Malaysia didn't mean they had to cheapen the reel up.

I also have checked these reels out at the local cabelas and they are not anything special. Like said earlier, its not smooth on the crank and won't free spool very good.

finally got to handle the new curado and was sadly dissapointed it isnt in the same leauge as the curado e series feel wise. This being said i have not fished the new g series, but probably will not fish them if i can still get the e series curado reels.

    Re: (Revofisher)

I've actually fished a G for a couple months now. It's not as good as the Curado E granted, but in my hands it's not nearly as bad as some make it out to be. It casts well, is reasonably smooth, and seems to have held up well so far. It palms nicely as well

yes it does. Though it does feel strange at the counter, load it with line and fish it, and it can surprise you. Tune it and it only gets better!

    Re: (reelex)

Well, I have had my G6 out 3 times.....spooled with 14 # FC. I have it on a Gloomis CBR 843 and have been throwing a Spro Little John. I have had alot of backlashes with it.....perhaps its the light weight lure but I still don't like this reel.
I did catch a nice spot on it though.

If anyone has a Shimano Citica 200D, an incredible reel, look on the bottom - Maylasia.

    Re: (HalBrown)

This is surprising to me. I thought the Curado took a little dive in performance from the D to E. It just felt a little looser, not as solid etc. If it's worse yet, that would be surprising to me.
