    Jig Skirt Color Chart

I was thinking a good idea may be to pin a thread where folks can list their favorite jig skirt recipes. Not sure if there is any interest, but I would like a guide to look at for when I buy skirt tabs or tie my own skirts.

Re: Jig Skirt Color Chart (dchance)

I would be VERY interested!! Save some $$$ on what to order instead of "guessing".
Couple of my "basic" colors, from fishingskirts.com:

Black/Blue: 2 1/2 tabs of black with 1/2 tab of blue
    Black/Brown: to your liking
Watermelon red: Moneymaker with red flake

Anyone else...would like to see some "formulas" for regular jigs (craws) and also for some swim jigs (shad/bluegills). And pinning it at the top would be benificial.

I really like the striped skirts. this really enables you to put together 2 colored jigs by buying one "color"

Great idea. I don't make many skirts except some black and blues and basic round rubber.

Yeah that would be nice. I know I can't find a Cumberland Craw at fishinskirts.com that looks like anything we use around here. I like the striped skirts too.

I've made some that are identical to the ones you are speaking of.

My biggest problem s that I get wild with two strands of this and two or three strands of that until I'm satisfied.
I can reproduce most of them, but have NO idea on what color numbers they are.
I've got 3746464838294746483929 skirt colors in a drawer "semi sorted."

Re: Jig Skirt Color Chart (Terry Anderson)

I went to a bunch of web sites and took screen captures, saved them to a folder. Before making my skirts I kinda flip through them getting my ideas refreshed.

This will link to my PB to see more. http://s117.photobucket.com/al...t=all And that's just a few from my folder.

Re: Jig Skirt Color Chart (dchance)

I have a "recipe" book which is a notebook where I write down the exact number of strands along with the actual material reorder number it takes to make a skirt. I will try and use the same base colors such as a certain black or watermelon etc then build variations off of those. Its MUCH cheaper to order in bulk so I try to every chance I get.

Re: Jig Skirt Color Chart (Mark Perry)

I went through the phase where I used all those different colors but not anymore. After a lot of trial and error now most of my skirts have 3 different colors at most. Green, brown and black or a combination of the three is what I catch 90% of my fish on.

And did you come up with that book from trial and error? I was kind of hoping to use this thread as a pinned "recipe book" for skirt combos

Honestly yes, I still get color variations in my head I can't make work out on a jig. I have OCD anyway so its something that is frustrating but challenging. I base a lot of the patterns I see off of soft plastic colors. I will spend hours in BPS/Cabelas looking at jigs and spinnerbaits to see how others do it. One thing I take a lot of pride is besides old tired and true patterns like black/blue I try and ape anyone else's stuff. I might see something that makes me want to do something similar but I like adding an unique take on it.
Once I am home and get more than 5 minutes to sit down i will try and post some of my patterns.

Re: Jig Skirt Color Chart (dchance)

Here's a chart I refer to when looking for a new color to try:
    http://www.elkenlures.com/skirt-patterns.htm
(I have no affiliation with this site, never tried their products...just use their chart)

I use swimjigs alot and this is my favorite color combo"

Re: Jig Skirt Color Chart (schmidte)

I have my notebook that I list my colors and how many strands per jig I use. I converted it to excel and printed out a reference sheet. There are quite a few colors that I know by number and not by color. Makes it easier when I need to order more material. When I get an order I can reference the color name to what strands. I have several tri-color skirts. So I list the name followed by the number reference from top to bottom. There are so many colors out there it can become over whelming very easily. Some I made up as I went along. Looked at bluegill patterns added 20 of this,25 of this and 10 of this wrote it down as I made it. If It didn't look good I scratched it and started over. Few I came up with.

Yep that was mentioned a post earlier. <table width="90%" cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 align=center><tr><td>Quote, originally posted by Jerkbait &raquo;</td></tr><tr><td class="quote">Here is a Jig Skirt Pattern Chart with 311 Pattern colors http://elkenlures.com/skirt-patterns.htm</td></tr></table>

    That's a good one, IMO.

I like writing em down but then to figure out which one was which was a PITA !
I realize that I really like only a few colors and that's all.

What I'll do with all this skirt material I really dont know ! I'll take it to the rallies with me and let ppl make a few for themselves I reckon ! I need more friends to come by needing skirts !

Instead of writing mine down in a notebook, i make an extra skirt in just a skirt band and put it in a small baggie with a label on it. On the label i write the color codes from fishingskirts.com for the colors i used and how many strands of each.
