    Powder Painting Weedless jigs

I recently started pouring weedless jigs. I purchased the base pins rather than pouring with the weed guard in the mold. I have a painting question. Do you powder paint with or without the weed guard in? If i do it without, I'm finding that the paint fills the cavity and I'm left using a 1/8 bit to drill it out. Is that normal? I also thought, maybe id get better contact (I guess thats the word) if i painted with the guard in. That way the paint would sorta seal the guard in the hole more. I hope i didn't confuse anyone....

One more thing. I also have a poison tail mold. Should i cover the eye inlets with something? I would think the paint would fill that little indent right up. I bought some clear top coat (Liquid paint) then to seal the eye once i stick it on.

Buy some extra base pins. Pour lead with cleans ones then use another set to paint. Just leave them in when you powder paint and bake. While jigs are still warm out of the oven take a pair of pliers and CAREFULLY twist the base pin till you get it out. Easisest way I have found to do it.

Search for Teflon base pins on Barlows and other websites. You can mold them in your jigs. And powder paint with them in. This will keep the paint out of the weedguard hole. In regards to poison tail, I haven't used on before but from what I have seen you powder paint then add the eyes and such. I think it would fill in the cavity.

Some use 1/8 in wooden dowel rod cut to length.

I don't have any problems with powder paint on my poisontail molds. It only fills the 'eye sockets' up a little. Not enough to effect putting eyes on.

Coonhound, do you put some type of clear coat over the eyes to seal them in or is the normal eye adhesive enough?

I've been covering them with devcon 2-ton. The adhesive that comes on them generally doesnt do too bad...but the epoxy seals them on.

I have not ever used the poison tail jigheads. The main reason I don't like pouring jigs with the weedguard is its a LOT easier tying the skirts then putting the weedguard in.

+1 on the teflon pins, easiest way to do this and I've been doing it for over 20 years.

+1 I have found this to be true as well. So much easier making wraps and such with out the weed guard. It is always the last step in my process, installing weed guards that is.

Sally Hansen hard as nails clear fingernail polish You do not need to cover the entire head just put a drop on the eye.

    Re: (Munkin)

I've got a poisen jig mold as well but I powder paint the jig no covering anything up. Once its painted I'll add the eyes the epoxy them and you're good to go. Hope this helps some if you hadn't already found out.
