    Wouldn't recommend that!

With the harness INSTALLED (or the connectors protected with plastic-wrap or ziplock bags).... you might try some engine degreaser, then rinse with water, and dry with COMPRESSED AIR IMMEDIATELY.

Once completed, ensure connectors are clean (electrical contact cleaner, or Brake Cleaner works well), dry connectors with compressed air, and then place the harness in direct sunlight on a "dark colored surface" for a couple hours to "sunbake dry".

    Don,

Harness is off the motor so I thought this would be a good time to really clean it out. All the electrical tape has come loose and left behind the gooey sticky mess on the wire covers.

WD 40 works pretty good at getting of adhesive with a little elbow grease thrown in.. Less of a chance leaving water in..

Don, your saying if ya use the Brake cleaner on the comector (male and female ends) dry with compressed air to still let it sun bake dry??

Kerosene is great for gleaning gummy residue left by tape. Just put a little on a rag and wipe it off the wires. We do it all the time to get the gunk off of video cables.

I'm thinking I'd like to just let it soak in a 5 gallon bucket for a week, anybody done mineral spirits or paint thinner ????????????? I don't want to scrub every wire, just a good degrease.

That's correct! You just can't be too careful... and it will help to ensure COMPLETE evaporation of all cleaner, and/or moisture from compressed air.

BTW.... you do have to be very careful "what" cleaners are used on harnesses. Some cleaners (such as WD40) actually can CAUSE corrosion (especially if it gets into the connector ends, and begins to travel the wire strands).
