    Obtaining wheel weights

I have been trying to get lead via wheel weights to use with my lures but no one wants to get rid of them. All the places I have gone say they send them back to the manufacturer or something. Everyone who uses wheel weights with their lures seem to have no problem getting them from tire places.

lead is considered a hazardous waste product and is some times hard to get a hold of like in your case. if you live in a place where there are low key tire people stop there and if that does not work start asking where ever you stop that has tires. some times you just have to find the right guy on the right day.

if that fails go to wal mart parking lot with a pair of pliers and have a it after dark of course

I am going to try the mom and pop stores that I know of. In regards to the Walmart...my local Walmart is extremely crime ridden. I would rarely go there by myself late at night moreover steal weights haha.

EDIT: BTW I have been to the Walmart in Lima, OH. I would much rather do it there than in Greenville, NC.

I have 5 buckets full of them. They are a little labor intensive to melt down and clean the lead, but theywork good for me. I have 3 people hounding me for them right now

Like someone else said look for smaller tire stores, not major chain stores.

Find a local shooting range and hit the berms with a mesh screen rig. This may sound a bit time consuming but theres a ton of slugs in the berms. Find some local folks that reload and ask them where they get lead.

See if you can get a good price on lead from a local junk yard/recycler.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy it then burning up all that gas looking for it? Allot of guys buy their lead on e-bay. 70 lbs can fit in a medium flat rate box for $10 or so. Just a thought and a quick search found this

That is probably what I am going to do to start with. I have been research that a lot and those seem like a good deal.

Lead has gotten unbeliveably hard to come by in the last 5 years. Low key tire store are where to look----and tire store where you buy your tires--arm twist!!!

    Re: (jdb21867)

I use to take a bucket and tell the guys at the junk yard (junk yard with a lot of cars) if I could go around and pick up the wheel weights that where lying around from falling off the junk cars and you would be surprised of tha amount you could pick up , but ask 1st and how much for picking it up on the grounds some would put it on a scale so watch out for that and some would say give me $5.00 bucks since you picked it , worth a try.

If any of you guys know a roofer, ask them if they have any of the old lead roof pipes laying around or to save them for you if they come across them. It's dirty and will have to be skimmed but it's a great source for lead.
