    Re: (dhayward)

i've built a few of them. they are a good blank for the money, but they aren't exceptionally light or anything special (i haven't tried the HM models). They aren't as good as an RX8 or SCIII st. croix. IMHO they are about the same as a batson RX7 which is a great workhorse, but definitely not the lightest or most sensitive.

If you want the lightest and most sensitive - you need to be looking at the RX8, North Fork HM, St. Croix SCIV+, pheonix etc..... if you want to keep it under 100 bucks - try some hydra blanks from ALX. i've built on 2 and both came in a full ounce lighter than comperable mhx and rx7 builds i've done in the past (both came in around 3.5oz finished weight at 7'3").

    Re: (moorecat)

I have rods built on mhx blanks and they are lighter than my powell 703 mef, and are more sensitive. I think they make a great rod.

Yes I have built on them. I think for hobby builders they are a great option. I think there are better options if you are really looking for true performance. BUT if this is your first build, don't spend a ton of money. Buy on a budget, learn some lessons, then invest on future builds.

I'd bet your Hydra came in lighter than a comparable St Croix SCIV, Batson RX8 or RX8+. I haven't seen the NFC HM weights to compare.

Might have something lighter coming soon... should know in the next month.
