    Mercury serial number

I’m needing help with some clarification on exactly what engine i have,it’s a 2005 mercury my serial # on the tag specifies 1B823221 and model -1250P73ED and 250xs L. However on my ecm and the sticker on the intake both say 225hp. I’ll attach the pictures of them all. When i search the serial on mercury parts page its gives an option for a 225 and a 250. Are there any identifiers to look for that could tell me what i have?

I'm sure it is a 225 because the 250 uses different air injectors so it probably would run like crap with a 225 PCM. There should be a sn stamped on the block (pretty sure the port side but don't quote me).

Also that vintage 250xs should be a gold block not painted. You need to look up parts by the SN on the block or you are going to end up with some parts that will not work.

What you have is the midsection from 1B823221, which was indeed a 250 ProXS engine, and came with a Verado-Style gearcase.

Someone has installed a STANDARD 225 Optimax powerhead and electronics on that midsection. So you have and Opti-Frank.

That was the conclusion i had came too after doing more research, thanks for the info and reply. I didn’t figure it was a racing xs and that someone had put the decals in when they wrapped the boat, but it still moves out plenty enough for me to get the job done.

Be very careful when it comes to ordering parts. That's an earlier model STANDARD Opti form the PCM number so maybe at some point post some pictures from around the powerhead and we'll see how much "frank" there is in your Merc.

I've been lurking around on this forum for years. Maybe I missed it, but have never seen that one before.
