HDS7 GEN2 Question: I don't see clear arches of fish WHY? I see the bottom good. What are the best settings? Have 80/200 transducer on TM. Do I need a different transducer? Bass fishing in fresh water lakes. Usually dont fish deeper than 30feet. Any suggestions appreciated. Doug

There are several factors to consider to get arches to display on your screen. You mentioned your trolling motor mounted transducer which is generally used when moving more slowly than the outboard motor. Arches occur when your boat is moving and the bass are relatively still. The beginning of the arch is when your transducer first detects the bass under your boat. The line from your transducer to the bass is longer when you initially "see" the bass. As your boat moves directly over the bass the line (distance) is shorter, and that represents the top of the arc which is close to the true depth of the bass. Then as you move away the distance again is greater, and you see the downward part of the arc.

If you are sitting still in 25 feet of water and a bass is sitting still directly under your transducer 10 feet above the bottom, you will see a straight line at ten feet above the bottom. If either the bass is moving, or your boat is moving, you will see an Arc. If the movement is fast you will see a distinct arc.

Having your transducer perfectly level to the bottom makes the arches consistent and even. If your transducer is tilted, the arches will have a longer side and a shorter side.

    Hope this helps explain it.
    ciao,
    Marc
