If you have any broken rods laying around and a micrometer it isn't hard at all if it's cork. EVA is harder to make it look good though. You need to know the inside diameter of the butt end of the blank on the rod that you're wanting to extend. After it's measuring the outside diameter of the broken rod until you find a piece that matches. The 2 blanks need to be a pretty similar taper. For the extension I like to do a 2 to 3 measurement. If you want to extend the handle 3 inches you'll want to slide it in the butt of the rod 2 inches (5 inches for the overall length of the extension), 4 inch extension would be about 2 1/2" slid into the butt end and so on. Once you have the extension cut (cut with a dremel tool with a cutting wheel, a saw will chew up the fibers of the graphite pretty good) epoxy it in, ream out some cork rings to fit and glue them in place and put on a butt cap and your done. It really isn't that hard to do but I would still practice on a broken rod first just to get the hang of it.

I Rednecked both of my flippen sticks by adding 5 inches to the handle. I just cut 5 inches offof my fiberglass shovel and rake handles. Probably could of used ABS/PVC, but it worked great. I slid it over the butt end of my Loomis rods about an inch so it fit snug them wrapped it with Rod Wrap. It balances the rod out perfect with a 1/2 oz bait on it. Been working great for years.
