I live way back in the woods and have Dueling banjos play for my doorbell, no problems here.

Had a tree-trimming rep just walk straight out into my backyard where I was doing some landscaping. Acted like he belonged there or something. My dog let him know who owned the yard and I didn't even try to stop her from chasing him out.
We get solar guys regular.....
We live in a small, small, small town......they are required to have permits here to solicit door to door. If they do not have a permit they get ticketed and escorted to the city limits.

No I don’t need new windows, lawn service, solar panels, trash service, vinyl siding, investment advice or roof. These are just the ones that have knocked on my door in the last few weeks. Seems they always show up when I’m trying to get dinner ready.

Here it’s solar guys. Out of state companies look at satellite and pound homes with no solar.
NO is an acronym for New Opportunity to get a yes.
I bet the naysayers did not give up at the first no from their mate.
Look them right in the eye and say “Marjorie, I told you never again my home. My wife’s here for Christ sake!” Then no matter what they say just repeat “Marjorie. Not here. Not now.!”

I am usually nice to them unless they don't take the first NO seriously, after that I get a little spicey.

I will come out via my garage door which gives them a bit of a start. Then I point to the road and say do you see the road? they normally will say yes.
I then tell them use it and don't come back.
Seems to work well for the most part. Now and then I will get one that will get pushy then I will nicely tell them to use the road it is for their own good.
They then normally go. If not then they get to see a side of me I don't even like.
I never did door-to-door but my career was in sales. I loved it. You certainly need to be thick skinned but I enjoyed the thrill of closing sales.
I respect anyone that is out there trying to earn an honest living. I simply tell them that I'm not interested, but they can leave me some literature and a card if they want to. I've never had any problem with these people.
I used to sell Watkins Products and Fuller Brush door to door when I was 14 and 15. Fuller had a panel cleaning product and this was in the sixties when Everone had wood paneling. I would rub a little bit of the cleaner on the panel and the housewife had no choice but to buy it because it left a bright spot on the wood paneling. I made enough extra money to buy a nice motorcycle whenI was fifteen.The skills I learned to convince the housewives to buy came in handy in my young dating life.
To this day I still love the challenge of cold calling a business , charming my way past the gatekeeper to get an appointment with the owner.
Commission sales is the only way you get paid what you are worth. I wish everyone got paid based on their production. I bet you government workers would not like that!
Ditto - I spent a lifetime in sales and it takes a lot of fortitude to make it work.
