Knot to use for light fluorocarbon line

This year I decided to start using lighter line for my finesse smallmouth fishing (ned rig / drop shot) primarily. In general used 8/10 lb without ANY issues. I've been throwing a 7 lb and and 6 lb and I'm starting to have break-offs at the connection (drop shot hook / ned rig) . Drag is set light and I've landed 10X what I've lost. I want to stick with it because I feel I get more bites just don't want to donate all the hardware to the bottom of the lake,

I'm a tried and true Palomar guy, always wet it. Any suggestions on another knot ? Is it is simple as retying after X # of fish ? Any info is helpful til I figure it out.

I regularly use 4-6# fluoro leader and my connection knits are the palomar and improved clinch knots. I don’t have many break offs at all. I think 3 things help a lot - (1) of course wet the knot before cinching it, which you do already, (2) check/retie often, and (3) a forgiving rod and a good drag help a lot. I don’t know if that helps - I hope so, because I know how frustrating break offs can be. Good luck!!

Flouro in 2-6 lb sucks.Breaking strength is terrible specially with a leader. I went back to mono. Little stretch is good. Fish don’t care. Way more forgiving.

Trilene knot, Palomar doesn't work good with floro.

x2. I made the switch a few years ago and my experience with fluoro is the trilene knot is superior.

Improved clinch knot works for me with very light fly tippet that’s more supple than standard floro

Thanks, some other good tips as well but I think one of the issues is retying, something I rarely had to do but I'll give that a try and the Trilene knot is getting a lot of nods

Carefully tied palomar works fine…but if you f up and cross the lines, you’re in for a heartbreak. I use San Diego jam.

Double San Diego Jam has been shown to be superior many times over. No way I use any other knot unless there is a lot of data to support it.

I use a lot of light fluoro. Uni knot and just a standard improved clinch works just fine. Definitely check the line more and retie more often. I'll retie my ned after probably 15-20 casts in rocks, or 2-3 fish. You're talking 6-7lb test. Nick the surface, it's now 1-3lb test. Nick it again...see where I'm going.

Palomar knot is a good knot used with mono. It’s just okay in floro.
Once you start using a double San Diego jamb knot you will realize how bad the Palomar knot is. Palomar lovers please don’t get me wrong. I have caught tuna over 100 lbs on that knot using mono..
