2021 Ranger 520C with a Mercury 250 4 stroke. What size hydraulic jack plate can install?

8 inch is the max allowed to maintain warranty. John can confirm.

So they are so poorly made now that they can't even handle a 10" jack plate? JM really did ruin them didn't he?

Just repeating what recommended max is. Again, John, or another mod can confirm. I’ve owned Rangers from every era. Maybe I’m lucky, maybe you can find issues with anything (or anyone) if you look hard enough, but my 2021 Z520C is one fine ride.

So is my '19. Always hear JM cheapened but I would Love to hear more than 1 person give an example of across the board "cheapening"

Quality of construction has zero to do with the recommended setback on that boat. The manufacturer determines the best balance point and fulcrum of force for the optimum plate. I’m sure it also isn’t a matter of another 2 inches being a breaking point, but you have to stop somewhere. If the manufacturer recommendation was 10, someone would say why not 12? And if 12, why not 14? Then owners would be complaining because they couldn’t get the boat out of the hole….

I found this in the warranty statement from 2020, relating to warranty exclusions: “A fiberglass boat with an engine setback that is in excess of eight (8) inches, with the following exceptions: four (4) inches on a 168; ten (10) inches on a Z520L, Z521L, Z521c, Z519L or Z519; six (6) inches on Z521L, Z520L, Z521c, Z520c, Z518L, Z519L and Z519 rigged with an Evinrude G2; fourteen (14) inches on 2350 and 2510….”

So, the recommendation for a 2021 Z520C, unless it was changed from 2020, is 8 inches. Notably, the Z520L is rated for 10 inch plate while the Z520C is rated for 8 inches. They were, of course, slightly different hulls.

Must be nice to be so certain and know nothing. My 14 is pre JM. The 520C hull and transom are rated for the 8.

JTTS, ignore the ignorant statements above and go with the 8 as recommended. Performance will suffer with the 10.

Its a Ranger, you don't buy a Ranger for performance.

Yup. The recommended setback on the 521C is 10, 520C is 8.
