    1998 3.1L OX66 225 intermittent noise

Intermittent noise coming from my OX66 225 VMAX. Kinda reminds me of belt squeal on a car. It will do it sometimes in gear or at idle. I took a video of the noise and about the last 3-4 seconds it stops. You have to turn up the volume to hear it.

    Any thoughts?

Bushing for lower unit shaft. SHO's are known for this. My OX has been doing it for awhile as I have not had it apart for 4 years or so. Until it needs a water pump, it will just have to squeak! Cj

Thanks for the information. So you think #36 or #38 on this schematic? I would probably replace both, O ring, and seals while I am into it.

Also, there have been issues reported here of a squeaking noise caused by the splines at top of l/u drive shaft being dry. I always add a bit of grease to these (but NOT the very top of shaft) when my l/u is off.

Don't need to replace anything. Drop the lower unit and grease the splines and where the shaft touches anything other than the pump cj

Sounds like a noise mine was making several years ago. I bought it new. 2000 200hp OX66. Ended up being a loose exhaust cover. Several screws that can work their way loose. Good luck.
