Anyone tried KBS Diamond Finish Clear yet???

Someone posted here about it a while back. I've been looking at it on thier website http://www.cleanclassicautoparts.com, and from what I've read it seems like it would make a real good topcoat. I just haven't pulled the trigger on it yet,,, was kind of hoping someone else has and is willing to share thier likes and dislikes. That's right, I want someone else to be the guinnie pig. Anyone???

I bought some just to try because I use a 2 part clear that I am happy with but this would be way easier to use if it was good. I have only put it on one junk bait just to see how it looked and to see how tough it was. I sprayed it but I still got the air bubbles that they talk about in the TU thread but not bad. The stuff seems really tough and I think if you sprayed a thin enough coat so you dont get the air bubbles it could work.

I hope it works well. It would be good to have another option for a top coat.

Matthew, if you go to http://www.cleanclassicautoparts.com it's the KBS Diamond Finish Clear, not just Diamond Finish. They sell it in 3 different quantities, pint for $32.95, quart for $48.95, and gallon for $179.95....These are listed as sale prices. Now that you know, you're gonna go ahead and order a couple gallons aren't you.

Used the diamond clear last night on a couple test baits. Brushed on and just Hung.

It applies easy, I did 2 coats with about 2 hours between. This morning it was dry enough to handle and was not tacky. The paint underneath was fine. It dried to a nice gloss is water clear BUT the baits must be put on a drying wheel. Reason being overnight at the bottom where excess clear gathered it caused very heavy air bubbles. To the point that the tip of the baits looks like foam where the last drip settled. This should be cured with nothing more than a wheel however. I'm going to try dipping and possibly spraying over the weekend and will once again post my results. Oh one more thing. After 10 hours the clear was still soft enough you could scrape it off with a fingernail. If memory serves me right there is at least a 4 day cure time so that seems about right.

Re: Anyone tried KBS Diamond Finish Clear yet??? (BassinBlazer)

....I have been following the posts on this stuff on several fourms. All seem to like it and the only neg was the bubbles when brushed on too thick, a wheel was the solution.......I gave the folks at CCAP a call to see how it would work as a clear coat on the top rail of my boat. They told me it can be painted on with a brush in several light coats, will remain flexable and is UV resistant.

The bubbles are killing me. Tried dipping last night and then the baits were put on a turner. One the baits was brushed. BUBBLES. Anywhere the coating is slightly thicker then the surounding area it gets foamy looking. Did it ruin the baits? No, but I wouldnt sell these to anyone but a friend or something like that.

Round 3... This time while painting I took extra care to dry between coats and then let the baits hand for a little over an hour over a heat vent. Then heated them again before brushing clear on them. A VERY light coat, then Hung them. No drying wheel this time. I'll post later again.

If brushing on ( like I do) and putting it on the turner does it wrinkle the paint.

Re: Anyone tried KBS Diamond Finish Clear yet??? (whoza_daddy)

Much less bubbles this time. But it will need multiple coats. As of now, and I hate to say this... Devcon might be a better choice. Looking at the time it will take to brush on mutliple coats vs the time it takes to mix and apply Devcon isnt much different. Heck Devcon may actually take less time. The Diamond clear doesnt look any where near as good as the Devcon even after 2 coats of Daimond clear, plus you never get bubbles or foam with Devcon.

Im pretty disapointed with this clear so far. The only thing I havent done is spray it, which I probably wont do just because of the toxic fumes.

I hate that it's not working well for you. Spraying may be the only good way to apply it, but I don't blame you for not wanting to spray it, being so fumey. Sounds like it may not be a good topcoat choice for lure work after all. Thanks for sharing the info.

Re: Anyone tried KBS Diamond Finish Clear yet??? (BassinBlazer)

Added another coat after 8 hours+, and did the next batch. Very few bubbles from the proir batch. Looks like extra curing time is needed for the paint (Im using Createx), very light multiple coats is the way to go. The coats are so light theres no need for a wheel as far as Im seeing.

They should be dry enough to handle by the morning. If I get time Ill post some pics.

It really is more labor intensive then I hoped, but Im gonna keep trying.

Re: Anyone tried KBS Diamond Finish Clear yet??? (paskeeter)

The coat I added last night looked great thismorning but I felt it needed one more coat. Not because of a lack of coverage, they would fish, but because they didnt show the depth that Devcon does.
As long as no other bubbles appear after this coat this might actually work. It definetly drys water clear, and from a smaple I did a couple days ago it seems to cure rock hard but at the same time stays flexible. I never gave much thought to the pro's and con's of flexibility. Anyone have any concerns?

I use Dick nite a lot latley ( didn't want to waste it) the thing I have found it that I heat set after ever appilcation. I also let the baits set for at least 24 hrs before I clear them. I ust to get a lot of wrinkles with the DN but now I get very little. Not sure if helps or not.
