Let's see, had my first Iwata for 11 years, paid $68 for it then. $68/132 months= damn your right way too expensive.

Just my 2 cents, but any half way decent dual action brush ought to be capable of spraying fine detail. To me it's more about paint consistancy and air pressure. Now I'm not saying that an Iwata won't be easier to use in that manner than say a brush from Harbor Freight. But I am saying that if you get your paint and air pressure right, you should be able to spray fine detail out of just about any decent airbrush.

Don't spend $200, just be patient and keep checking for sales and better prices. If you have a Hobby Lobby anywhere close keep a regular check on their sales and cupons online and you will find some great deals.

Re: airbrushes for a finer detail

Unless you have a really bad brush, you can probably spray fine detail as long as your brush is internal-mix. More depends on the painter's skill than the brush.

The Master G22 is a very good airbrush, and it costs much less than an Iwata. Sure the Iwata brushes might be better, but I've had no problems with my G22. I don't see any need to upgrade to a more expensive brush; the G22 can spray everything from fine lines to base-coats. Like I said, the airbrush isn't doing the painting; it's the person holding it. A better brush might help you paint better faster, but with practice you can paint just as well with a less expensive brush.

I bought the G22 and have also had zero problems out of it. The only issue I can think of is you have to get the right consistancy on the paint. I was having problems at first but I was using Createx and not thinning it at all. Once I thinned it down some it paints 10000000 times easier.

Thinning paint is something you have to deal with for all airbrushes, not just cheaper models. Even with the best airbrush out there, you'll have to thin the paint to the right consistency or it won't spray well.

I use devilbiss dagger. It will do fine detail. Does bagley stripes well and shading in small spaces without overspray. go with a gravity fed gun for small detail. You can use thinner paint and very low air pressure. With a suction gun you have to use enough air to pull the paint up to the tip. Then you run into splatter with the thin paint. You generally have to get close to the bait to do fine detail. A gravity gun has the paint bowl on top.

Agree with jv, I've got a gx207 and with the .5 needle I can just about match the detail I'm getting out of my 200+ dollar .3 Iwata as far as shooting very thin lines(I dont mask) . paint consistency plays a role but distance between the brush and the object painted plays a huge role

    +1

I take the needle cap off my iwata if I want to shoot a super fine line. Just be careful and not drop it becuase it will be a bent needle and tip....
