    modification of swimbaits

    Has anyone sucessfully found a way to make a deeper diving tru-life style swimbait? I have some that go 3-4 feet max, but I want some that'll go 10' deep or so. (we commonly fish 40'-60'++ at Lanier, so shallow to us is 10'.
    You know the blue gill and bait fish do this so I guess I dont see why this isnt being addressed.
    Has anyone tried to add a crankbait lip to one or anything obvious like this?!

    Was my question ignorant, or am I onto something... no real swimbaits go any real depth w/o letting them drop for 15 secs before you start moving them and then they all slowly work up out of the zone.

    Re: modification of swimbaits (whittler)

    Thanks for the reply, I am thinking of lipping a hinged bait, but can't decide if a pencil shaped one (like a sebile magic swimmer)would be better than a taller shorter one (like the H20 style from Academy sports: http://www.google.com/imgres?i...ty=86). I dont want it to roll over and just be useless.
    Please send any pics of successes to me;

    Greg,

    This might be a bit off topic.................but....................It may be worth looking into some of the smaller swimbait designers sites and fire over an e-mail to them. These guys put together some amazing work. Most aren't made until you order them, and a few of them, you can e-mail them and let them know exactly what kind of sink rate/custom paint scheme/colors you want at no extra charge.

    Customer service is always fantastic too.
    -
    I have no affiliation to any of these companies; I've just got some great baits from them and great service!
    -
    A few may cost a bit more, but once you see them in person and fish them; they put the pre-packaged/big-boxed companies baits to shame. And you typically have a one-of-a-kind bait too! You really should treat yourself to some of thse premium baits! (if you haven't already )
