Anyone bought any of it? Is it any good?
I was in there today and it was on sale for $4.99 for a pretty good size bottle. They had Black, Red, Yellow, and White I think but I didn't buy any.

$5 a POUND! That would last several lifetimes for the amount of jigs I make. I'm going to stop by next week and get a bottle of each. Looks like it would be fun to experiment with mixes. You get some interesting colors by mixing them since they don't cure at the same temps. With the Pro-Tec, I mix red and green to get brown, but there are tiny spots of the green that show up in the finish. I know I could just buy the color I need, but it's fun to mess around and see what turns out. You just have to write down the ratio you mix the colors. Thanks for the heads up.
I would question the durability, but for 5 bucks it's probably worth a try.

...and that works out every once in a while...if you need the gloss...just clear it with that water based epoxy from Component Systems!![]()
I use the white and it's perfectly durable for what we're doing. I don't see that any of the others last any better.![]()

Yes it good, it all comes from the same supplier. Companies get it in bulk and puts it in their pretty bottle.
What is the best cure time and temps? I bought this and the bottle says 400* for 15-20 min... My paint bubbled up at 350*... I'm doing this in a toster oven. I ruined the whole batch. I should have tested a smaller quanity first. Will 250* for 1/2 hour do the same thing?Would dipping twice in the paint cause this?

Why does it matter if its matte finish or gloss. Its a jig.......... not a set of rims.
Maybe Im missin somethin.
I prefer the matte finish..

Maybe confirm your oven temps with a second thermometer to be sure its not off. I know a lot of them will have variances.
Marking my place so i can find this thread later. I'm interested to see how that works out for you, Mike.
If it works well, i'll be all over this like stink on poo!

I have been using powder paint for a number of years and have never experienced the "bubbling" that Mike refers to. I have used powders from many manufacturers/distributors over the years and they all have their own nuances and I have noticed many of them have different temps they cure better at. I received a chart one time that had temps varying by as much as 50 degrees! Point is: with this powder I would start low...say around 250 and bake for 30 minutes and test it...throw across the driveway...or check for chipping. Personally, I like lower temps for 90% of the paints I use and bake them for a longer time. I may have to go to Harbor Freight and play with yet another paint!!![]()
Are you guys baking them with the weedguards already in them?
I made some up that i like but i didnt pour them myself so they are already in place. Its just cheaper for me to do it that way.

It is kind of tricky to do powder coat WITH the weedguards already in place...but it can be done. It is just more simple for me to pour them without and then glue them in after I paint and tie the jig(s).
I will be using a thermometer next time and see if it's too hot or I had too much paint on them.
