    mercmonitor question for Don

I am curious about the fuel tank sender for the smartcraft stuff. I have a 94 Bullet and the standard guage is notoriously inaccurate. I would like to change it over to work with my MercMonitor Guage. I understand it would be something different than the crappy float thing I`ve got now. How does it work, is it accurate, hard to set up???
I know you may not remember but I talked to you and got the Monitor from you a couple of months for my new 225 proxs. By the way I appreciate the help you gave me then when my dealer couldn`t get the Monitor. I works great and I`m still learning it and the new engine. That thing is a beast.
How will the new sender need to be set up and wired to the Smartcraft 4-way junction box ? Do you have the necessary stuff to hook this up ??

Re: mercmonitor question for Don (SNUFFY)

I am interested in Don's reply on this issue. My stock Stroker sending unit is connected to the Mercmonitor, but is there another option?

Re: mercmonitor question for Don (blair)

On mine, I just had to buy the harness, and used my old sending unit.

I highly recommend calibrating it, which requires emptying the tank and filling 1/4 @ a time. IF you tank is a perfect square or rectanlge, you can use the default calibration.

It is still not super acurate, and the weight in the boat, as well as the sloshing of the fule will give readings from one minute to the mext of up to 15 gals (at least on my boat it does).

I can have 1/2 tank of fuel, and on launch I will get a low fuel level alarm.

Re: mercmonitor question for Don (TRCM)

There is a harness that is added between the fuel tank and the engine. Much like the Smartcraft Data harness.... the hardest part is "running the cable".

The "default" calibration will usually operate "just like the analog gauge did".

There is an option to "manually calibrate" the sender, by the "fill method". Provided that the sender is good, this usually lends "quite accurate" results.

The manual calibration method was designed to allow for "odd shaped" fuel tanks (something other than square or rectangle shaped).

Of course, a replacement fuel sender is always an option as well.

    thanks for the info guys.
I had it in my head there was a system that measured the volume of empty space in the tanks....some sort of pressure device I guess.
Maybe it was on some sort of large cruiser or something.

My guage and sender work so-so and it is a new sender.. I usually just fill the tank and reset the gallons used on my monitor to 0 then when it gets to 38 used I know I'm screwed if still on the water
