    Rod help

I broke an eye off my Dobyns rod. The first one to the handle. I have ordered some new ones. Any suggestions on proper installation.

watch the video on wrapping guides.

you need some size a rod wrapping thread, a cheap, soft brush and some epoxy finish like flex-coat or threadmaster.

one of the keys i think to guide replacement is to get the rod blank surface as clean as you can. However avoid using solvents. The blank finish that many rod builders use comes right off even with alcohol. A little bit of heat from a flame will soften the old epoxy and make it easier to remove use a razor blade or even a fingernail to scrape it off as clean as you can. If you do have to use a solvent take extra care not to get it on a part of the blank that will be showing. A lot of patience will go a long way.

Once you get all the epoxy off then you need to prepare the guide feet. The blunt ends need to be smooth, pointed and free from burrs so that the thread will wrap up onto the guide easily.

from there the instructions on mudhole will lead you in the right path..

if you have more questions don't hesitate to ask...
