Hi there,
I am green to rod building. I want to use micros (ATC Nanolite 4mm) on a 7'6" telescopic rod.
How much prep do the feet of a micro guide need? And how do you hold the little things!
Any help is appreciated.

Guide prep takes a mere second. I use the 3s mostly and hold them hemostats. It takes longer locking them in place than it does to prep the feet on the wheel.
How do you hold them in place? Thin cuts of tape? Surgical tubing?
Try this method. You don't have to do any foot prep at all. I haven't done any guide foot prep in about 8 months. MUCH easier! It's doesn't work so well with a double foot but with single foot guides it saves a lot of time. This is directed toward micro's but obviously will work with any single foot guide.

I use a small piece of of tubing and a rubber band
Cheaper to keep a kid in tourney fishing than paying attorneys to keep them out of jail !!

I've tried that method but every time I pull it completely out. I just can't get the hang of it. Maybe I'm wrapping too tight. I've use the tape and sliced up surgical tube on most of mine.

I used tape to hold the guide down and the "wrap the foot and slide it down" method. It worked pretty well!
Best thing was I dropped a guide and didn't lose it!![]()
if your thread is really tight it can be hard to push it back. i usually wrap about half the foot and then just give it a little nudge.
