I melt it and skim all the junk off the top and mix it with soft lead
Yes, and once you do your initial skim flux the stuff with a small chunk of paraffin wax. Be careful because it will flame up. Once the flamage is stopped, stir the alloy well and remove the grossness that floats to the top.
The problem I've found with wheel weights is when you melt them down the junk your going to skim off the top will be some of the tin that was added in to make the soft lead a little harder. So after that process the spinnerbaits I made had a tendency to open up in the head where the wire enters from vibration. This can be cured by adding a small amount of antimony from a vendor who sells bullet casting supplies![]()
Or maybe I should lose more spinnerbaits before I wear them out![]()
