    G-Loomis DS820 Blank

Has anyone used the DS820-BLEND blank?

I fish tubes on 1/8oz jig heads & have been using a 6'8" Med X-Fast rod w/ 8lb Floro. Want to build a lighter rod & liked the specs of the Loomis Drop Shot blank. I'm just wondering what the "BLEND" means on this model.

Blank built with varying modulus materials at different sections to get the desired characteristics.

If you want extra fast and light weight, you might want to check out Lamiglas' XMG50 LP843 or LP842. Both will weigh about 1.6oz at 6'8".

Another option is the IMP883, if you can find one. It's the former Skeet Reese model 7'4" ultimate DS model. Really a slick stick, inlike those heavy yellow things.

Anyway, something you might want to try to get your hands on and check out.

Call Mudhole. Their new MHX blanks are available and they have a clone of that blank for $57. They have them available but you have to call to order them.

    DS820-Blend
    6'10", 4 - 8# line, 1/8 - 3/8 oz lure, XFast, Light Power, blank weight 1.7oz.

Has anyone here used the MHX blanks? Price looks great, but don't want to sacrifice sensitivity.

I have two MHX SB812's in the shop right now....can't comment on sensitivity yet, but they are light, straight and seem to be very well built....looks promising.

    Re: G-Loomis DS820 Blank (Bassn81)

I've built and fished the MHX MB843 and MB844, like them a lot. Building a SJ843 now and happy with it.

I've held about 4 other models. They seem to be very consistent with the ratings, all are light, and mudhole does a good job backing up the product.

    Re: G-Loomis DS820 Blank (cidgrad)

    Scott & Alex (and anyone),

Sorry, don't mean to hijack, but I am also looking to find a good blank for fishing 1/8 jig heads (jigworms) on the deep edge of curly leaf cabbage and coontail. I've used SJ782s, 822.5, SCIV63MXF, etc. I am buying some MHX blanks and was wondering about the SB812. Bob M used to suggest that one (G. Loomis) as a Shaky head blank. I'd like something that has the power to snap out of the cabbage but is soft enough to cast a light jigworm. I'm also thinking about the DS820 and the SJ782.

Any help will be a start. I have some RX7 SJ783 blanks and they are way too much rod for this app. (spinning, 8# flouro or 10# braid)

    Thanks guys!

    Re: G-Loomis DS820 Blank (CHM)

The MHX SB812 really reminds me of the St. Croix 3C68MXF in power and action. For Jigworm I would go with the avid for the sensitivity. That MHX seems perfect for spinnerbaits/topwater and the like. I think power and action would be great for the jig/worm...just don't know if the sensitivity will be as good as the Avid series blank.

Thanks. After doing more research I found my old spreadsheet and it reminded me about the Lami LP843 & 844. Might have to give that a shot.
