    Modification Question 2003 185 VX

    Hello all!
First post here, thank you for reading/contributing.
So I acquired a great old boat from a friend, very low hours, runs great.
In trying to figure out the storage situation, I encounter the two separate center compartments on the front casting deck.
Is the fiberglass that runs between the lids, or anything else structural?
I would LOVE to modify it and make this one large compartment, but obviously don't want to damage anything that ties the boat together.
Here is a pic, thanks again for sharing info:

I don’t know the technical answer to your question, but my concern if I were in your shoes would be making the bigger lid you’d have to create. Creating it would be a job in itself, and then you’d have the task of making sure that larger lid was as stable/secure when walking on it. Apologies if I’m not understanding what you’re attempting to do.

I have a 188VX and to be honest, I would leave well enough alone. Jbass123 has a great point and I would listen to his advice.

Bill, do you struggle to efficiently store 3700 boxes?

I store my 3700 boxes in rear storage compartments. The fiberglass rim at top of box is 13 7/8" wide. A 3700 bass pro box is probably 1/16" wider. Turn box at an angle to get them in. Make sure to leave some space so you can get them out at an angle.

I have a 185, I too would be concerned about structural integrity of that large a lid.
