I own a 2005 Triton TR-21X with a 2005 Mercury 250 XS. Just wondering what is involved in going to smartcraft guages, how much an installation usually runs, and what the advantages/disadvantages might be. Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!![]()

Two challenges with your boat:
1. Pulling the cable through the hull.
2. Deciding where to mount the instrument.
Disadvantages: Can't think of one!
Advantages: Digital format information, sourced DIRECTLY from the ECM/PCM of the engine.
I would strongly recommend the new MercMonitor (I will have a couple of these available for purchase this coming week).![]()

When you say pulling the cable through the hull, do you mean the cable has to be run somewhere other than with the other wiring/wiring harness? And what do prices look like on the new MercMonitor? I have been reading some threads about SmartCraft guages and have been thinking about getting it done for quite some time. You know how it is, it all boils down to money. Thanks again!!![]()

Yes, "pulling the cable through the hull" refers to running a cable from the engine to the dash.
SOME boats aready have the data cable intact- others do not. We can set you up "either way".
Currently, the basic MercMonitor Kit, with the data cable and adapter, is $428 (BBC member pricing).![]()

Well, I wasn't sure if you meant it had to be located somewhere away from all of the other wiring that goes from the dash to the engine. I will be looking into this a little more seriously once I get the money together. Anyways, thank you for your time. I may be calling you on a different question later today. Thanks again.

Just wondering if you ever installed your smartcraft gauges. I have a 08' 21x2 I was thinking about doing it to and was wondering how hard it was to run cable from engine to dash.
I am going through this right now, I took my remote temperature sensor off of the transom and pulled it through up to the dash along with 3 pieces of string attached. I will pull the temp sensor back along with the blue cable with one or 2 pieces of the string then still have one or 2 left over for future use. I have heard pulling the cable through the rigging tube is difficult but i will let you know once have it done it.![]()
I have an 02 Tr20, I installed one about 6 weeks ago...I love it!!!
I just took the glove box unit that is by the drivers console. It looks like must of the cables namely the mercury ignition extension cable is run along the rail on that side of the boat. This looks like it maybe an easier route to pull the cable than thru the tube.
BTW.... we DO have the Mercmonitor kits on hand, ready for shipment.![]()

I put my Smartcraft gauge right above the radio box on my TR-21X. Fished the ran pulled the cable to the rear with a metal fish tape, took about five minutes. Piece of cake.![]()
Don,
Do you know off hand how to use the Mercmoniter to get engine codes? I see alarms but did not see anywhere to check for fault codes?
Thanks
By the way mine is working great and looks great. Easy install...

Go back to the "main screen" (the one that shows "Propulsion", "Vessel", etc).
Scroll down to "Alarms" (or it may be under Propulsion... I honestly don't recall which section at the moment). I do know it's under the "Alarms" heading, though.![]()
