Yes my molds are made from plaster. the beaver is a copy of yum wollybug. I get most of my supplies from http://www.lurecraft.com Have not tried their plastic yet I'm on my last gallon of ozark plastic and plan on trying lurecrafts 502 plastic next.
I pour out in my garage with a cheap microwave and pyrex cups. I've tried using the stove top with the little tin cups but i kept burning plastic. When i heat mine up i do it in 45-50 second burst until it clear like corn syrup. It'll go from looking like milk to kind of a thick gooey gel then to the thin corn syrup stage. It'll be hot around 350 degrees. Once its melted i add my color, flake and scent.
I wear a resperator and gloves the fumes are not good for you. They give me a headache.
As for building plaster molds go here http://www.tackleunderground.com click the "how to" tab then under "member submitted tutorials" go to soft plastic.

lurecraft will have everything you need for soft plastics color, flake scent and molds . As for scents I use their garlic, crawfish and anise. Out of those three i use the garlic the most it really strong.
