    simple spiral wrap

hey guys can you give me some pros and cons on this.

I am going to redo one of my old BPS extreme rods I'm going to do this on at least one rod mabye 2 ( new senko rod).

also I am startign off with a #10 stripper guide and rotating around to the bottom with a #8 what size eye should I use in between these 2.

I start with a 10 at 15 degrees to the left of center for the firts eye, a 8 @ 45 degress from center to the right, a double foot 7 @ 135 degrees to the right, then a singlefooted 7 @180 (bottom), then all the rest on bottom

    Re: simple spiral wrap (ReelDoc)

one of the benefits of the spiral wrap is as soon as the line has made the transition you can use the smallest guides you want... thus eliminating a lot of weight associated with double foots. There are many variations as mentioned previously. The simple spiral however has only 1 offset guide at 90* to transition the line from top to bottom.
this photo goes 10 df stripper, 8df , 7df to all 6 single foots.. its rotated so the bumper guide is up (rotated 90* to the left)

i use a size 10 double foot stripper at 0*, a size 7 double bumper at 90* and a size 6 single foot between 160* and 180* for the first bottom guide. The rest i use size 6 single foots or smaller for the rest of the blank. Also - the only reason i say 160-180 degrees on the first transition guide is that you might have to tweak the placement to keep the line off the blank. I have numerous setups like this i use personally as well as several i have built for others - there are no issues with line piling up on one side of the reel or any hinderance towards casting.

I'm planing on using 7 double foot stripper, 7 single bumper, 6 single transition and then sz4 micros the rest of the way on some upcoming builds... no sense in putting any bigger guides than you have to on there.

    Re: simple spiral wrap (thedude)

The Simply spiral works just as good as others. Just be sure to thouroughly read the article before you do it. The bumper guide is NOT a transition guide, it is in addition to the normal guides.

I use a blend between the revolver and oquinn method. I have never noticed a need to offset the stripper so I don't.

I use 6dbl, 5f, 4f and 3 to the tip for anything w/ 15lb. and lighter line. If I go above 15 I use 4's or 5's for the running guides.

    I stay w/ the 3's for braid.

    Re: simple spiral wrap (Bassn81)

thanks guys it is and old BPS rod so I am just going to reuse the eyes on it. I not worked about weight on this rod,its more of and experiment to see if I like it. I going to build me a new senko rod and was thinking about wapping it this way also.

Make sure you pay attention to what Scott said. Reusing the guides is fine, but you will need to add a guide roughly halfway between the original stripper and 2nd guide. This will be the bumper. Guide placement on the the stripper and all the transition guides is the same as it was in the original setup.
