    Winches for truck

Long story short I burried my tractor down to the hubs o. New Year’s Eve gathering firewood for the bonfire

needless to say I’m unable to budge it with my truck and used to know a few people with winches on their vehicles but after calling few guys I’ve been unsuccessful, so I’m thinking about going and just buy one and put it on a mounting plate for my tow hitch or maybe look into having one installed on my truck because I’m gonna be several more years of working this land trying to get it where it needs to be so I’m sure I’ll have more stuck traction

other then the name brand warn winch that I’ve seen for years has anyone ever used any of the off brands that you see at harbor freight or online ?
I figure I need at least a 12k-18k winch and looking for insight

It is all fun and games until the tractor is stuck to the axle. Not a fun place to be.

If you're going to really use it just get a Warn.

It was fun while it lasted but then ran over a hole where a tree was removed and she sunk pretty good and the 3 point is bottomed out so she wouldn’t even budge pulling on it with my f250 and almost stuck my truck in the process, it’s amazing what we can do in the middle of the woods after a few beers

Are you sure even a winch attached to your truck will pull it out. Dang tractors really stuck deep ive seen fight some much larger equipment trying to pull them out.

    Don’t know

last time I was stuck like this luckily I had the dozer guy there doing some clearing and we pushed it out with that, I got some guys supposed to come help tomorrow and see what we can do if that don’t work might have to pay a wrecker to come winch me out this time but I’ll see what happens tomorrow, the rain is supposed to set in on Wednesday so tomorrow will be the only dry day for a while

Exactly. I would not expect a pickup or a winch attached to one to be enough. I know two guys that stuck a tractor and it took a very large tractor to get one out and a bulldozer to get the other out.

The Badlands Apex is very popular around here…definitely not the cheaper ZTR one, though.

But, I’d still give Warn a hard look.

Either way, heed the safety warnings and operating instructions. There’s a lot of energy at play and injuries aren’t usually known to be mild.

With enough pulleys, I bet it’s possible. Guess it’s about how to get the best angle to lift it out of the ground while being anchored by the truck.

Not sure I’d want MY truck being involved in that, though.

This winch is one of the best at getting things un-stuck. I grew up working in the woods cutting firewood and logging with my Father. As long as you have a good tree or stump to pull from, you should be able to get it out.

This Wyeth- Scott winch is nothing like smaller come-a-longs. These are heavy cast iron and steel units.

Much slower than an electric winch, but it works in almost all cases. I have pulled out large trucks (loaded with wood) weighing 20,000 pounds.

A few years ago, a group was helping clean up after a tornado. Large tracked skid-steer went into a ditch (overgrown and did not know ditch was there). The back end got buried into the dirt and would not come out. A 6-ton truck (ex small firetruck) could not pull it out. I hooked my winch ro the skid steer and pulled it out in about 10 minutes. Took longer to hook up chain around tree stump, than pulling it out.

The bar-handle that comes with the winch is too short. We have always used a 3ft length of cold-rolled bar as the handle. Two people can pull on the 3-ft bar and move the winch one notch. Initially, that is what it will take when something is stuck badly.

I use my winch more cutting down trees. The winch is used to pull tree in the desired-fall direction.

    Good luck.

I buried my MF tractor the same way. I used come-alongs attached to trees to winch it out an inch at a time.

I have both champion and warn. The champion has held up surprisingly well. But no comparision in quality to the Warn. With snatchblocks and anchor points you could pull just about anything out. You just have to have enough of both and be able to rig it up to do it. Cj

Did you dig out behind the wheels and hitch, or are you just hoping it will magically rise up while pulling horizontally?
