Hah, thanks Mike,
I got lucky really. I had been talking to Steve Gardner a lot when I started trying the micro guides. I was honored to have been included in his article. Bobby Feazal is in there as well, he is shockwave on these boards. Bobby has a TON of experience with the micro guides, he is also a wealth of information.
I have a set of the micro's but just can't make myself pull the trigger and put them on. I may pick your brain about the set up when I get the mindset ready to do it.
Again... congrats.... BTW I got ahold of Steve several months back and he lost me on the micro guides.
Mike, they absolutely ROCK. I honestly have had zero problems with them. If you decide to put them on I'd be glad to answer any questions you have.
Mike
If you will get some help on the first one from Scott or someone else (I'll be happy to pitch in.) then I will predict that you will be creating yourself a lot of future work because, like me, you will be rebuilding all your rods with the micros.
They are that good.
I just built one for myself with micro's a few weeks ago and I won't build another one for myself without them again. Added distance, 7' loomis blank that weighs 4.1 ounces complete and Mr. Feazel just told me yesterday that's a tad on the heavy side.can't beat them.

Alright alright.... guess I better get my crap together and get it started... thanks guys.
What are the micro guides? Can someone post a photo are a link.
Jason,
The micro guides are basically jus really tiny single foot guides. Sized from 4 down to 1.5mm. I use the size 3's for my running guides on almost all of my rods anymore, including flipping sticks.
Here is a pic of them on a rod
Here is a CAD drawing showing the ring dia. related to the line dia. As you can see the ring is more than large enough for the line.
12lb. Mono in a size 3
50lb. mono in a size 3

Bobby, I see you say no step down in guide sizes... I believe I seen Steve talking about this so you use the 3.5's as the stripper guide also?
Do you or Scott mind emailing me some pics of the spiral? for some reason I can't get it in my mind how to get it under with out rubbing the blank all the time.

Those are cool. Thanks for the photo's![]()
Mike
I sometimes fail to mention that all my rods are build in the conventional style. All guides on top and yes, all the same size.
Scott builds spiral so he is by far the best help on that type.
Feel free to contact me anytime if there is something else you need.
Bobby
Macro congrats to Scott and Bobby for your micro work!
I haven't read my latest Rodmaker yet---just got it a couple days ago.
I've got a number of micro-guide rods in my personal arsenal and in the hands of tournament fisherman now, thanks to you guys and Gardner.
