Anyone else have trouble dialing in Tatula CT?

I have lots of SV and CT R tatulas and have found them to be the easiest reels to dial in and cast with. Last year, I decided to try the newer Tatula CT after reading reviews of how that was the best bang for buck Tatula. I just can't seem to dial this reel in so it comes even close to my older SV's and CT R's. I even had my reel repair look look it over and he says it looks fine. Wondering if anyone else has this issue- seems like I need to dial it 14 to avoid backlash but casting distance isn't good.

I've done all I could in terms of making sure line is above bar, adjusting tensioner, etc..... and like I said, never had a problem with my other reels.

I found the casting distance to be pretty poor as well. I bought one last year and used it maybe 6 outings this year. I’m consistently casting 10-20yards less with the Tatula CT than I am with my other reels.

However I just looked and I have mine set to 5 with the spool tension backed pretty far off so I just toss it up to the nature of the reel. Quality is obviously better with the Daiwa over the Abu and Lews I have but just can’t get the distance

I just sold a near mint Tatula ct on here. Tatulas are nice I just prefer Shimano. That said, I had the mag force z at 8 most of the time and the cast control set to reduce side to side play and I could bomb most lures with 15lb mono. I do feel like mgl spool reels from Shimano require just a flick of the wrist to achieve the same distance though.

John - how old is the reel? I ask in case it may be a warranty issue that could be resolved if you bought it new from an authorized Daiwa USA dealer. The Tatula CT has been a very good performing reel with few problems, like its little brother the Fuego CT. They're pretty easy to dial in generally...

Gary, it has already been in for warranty service. I'm going to just chock this up to bad luck. I have over a dozen other Tatulas and they all have cast really well.

Something is likely wonky with the combo of magnets, rotor/ramp/spring, dial settings, etc.

The fastest way to test for a flaw - swap out the spool and sideplate with one of your same model Tatulas and see if that changes the performance in either reel.
