    Eff Spectrum

Man, I hate that company. They have a virtual monopoly in this area for internet service due to agreements with towns over who can string cable. My first disagreement came after 8 years of paying my bill every other month. I paid and they were happy (except for one time I was out of town and forgot to pay before leaving. They sent me a text saying my service would be cut off if I didn't get caught-up immediately which I did). Then they suddenly changed their billing policy without warning and cut service off at 5-6 weeks without a text. To reinstate service they required a $25 fee. I called and asked why no text and the rep said they had no means of reaching me. I asked, "Well how is it you continue to bombard me with promotions vie email and text?" No answer. I ate the fee and moved on cause they were the only game in town.

Fast forward to present: I moved to another town where Spectrum unfortunately has a stranglehold so I signed up with them. Customer service rep closed out that account and established a new account at the new address. It just happened to be at the very start of a new billing cycle and they absolutely do not prorate service. One day is the same as a month and you get no credit for any days the service is down. So I'm paying for an entire month that I'm not using, the new customer is paying an activation fee plus the $90 for service, and Spectrum is collecting $205 for one month of service at that address.

I wish Verizon had their phone/ISP package up and ready in this area. I'd jump ship in an instant. As it is, I'll have to do some research and see if there's any viable option.

    Rant over, carry on.

I've never understood how cities get away with granting a particular company a monopoly on services, whether it be cable TV, internet, or garbage collection. Invite all companies in and let them compete. The market will sort out winners and losers.

We have Spectrum internet, as they are the only provider in our rural area. But, we dumped their cable TV service several years ago. They priced themselves out of the market. We've had Hulu Live since then and are generally happy with it.

Consolidated Communications stopped doing TV service. We had their bundle for over 20 years, phone, internet and TV. They only do Phone and Internet now. Well in our area. We went with YoutubeTV dropped the landline.

Starlink, 100-120 a month depending on your location, if your cell is not full.

My first disagreement came after 8 years of paying my bill (every other month.) I have to pay every month or they would probably shut off my service.

We use Spectrum in our area, I guess same company but managed by different rules maybe? Really not had any complaints with them at all. Actually will credit your bill if you service goes out, case in point, Disney issue this past summer.

Well, you don't want 20 different companies stringing cable everywhere. That part I can understand. Plus some I believe money changes hands for the exclusive rights.

Yeah, I'm checking on them. Thanks for the suggestion.

I can understand it being a policy but changing the rules in the middle of the game without telling anyone is what irked me. It started out with me writing a check for which I had a reminder set on the calendar. Cutting the number of checks to write in half was a benefit. Eventually, I went to online bill pay and they still didn't have a problem with it

Ha! No our Spectrum doesn't credit for down times. It could be down for two weeks and they'd still charge for the entire month

No matter which company, as long as they have the cabling monopoly they couldn't care less about the customers.

It is a racket like lots of things these days. Comcast can be a PITA too and would be replaced if there was a viable alternative.

I have spectrum. No other option at this time. Their internet sucks but customer service is very good.Call them and ask for the retention department. You may have to call several times. I explained that I was a customer for 20 years and wanted to know why I pay full price and new customers pay half. They dropped my internet price to 39.99/month and supposedly increased my speed. Again...crappy internet service...really good customer service.

Not a fan of Spectrum but about 99.9% of the time any changes to a sevice contract with most any service provider results in an email explaining such changes. I am bad about not reading them myself. The fine print gets me sometimes.
